Northwest Registered Agent Reviewed: My Experience After 6 Years
Skip the paperwork. Northwest files your LLC for $39 + state fee and includes the first year of registered agent service for free.
I formed my Florida LLC with Northwest in 2020 and still use them as my registered agent. For this Northwest Registered Agent review update, the Persuasion Nation team rechecked Northwest’s checkout, pricing, renewal terms, support, and cancellation terms in September and October 2026. Prices were last verified on October 2, 2026.
That said, Northwest has a few things most reviews miss: the renewal price, mail limits, annual report upsell, EIN cost, and what its address actually does and doesn’t protect.
Is Northwest Registered Agent worth it?
Yes, for most owners forming a simple LLC who want a registered agent at a fair, predictable price. Northwest charges $39 plus the state fee to form an LLC, includes the first year of registered agent service, and renews at $125 a year. In our comparison of 13 formation services, it had the lowest three-year provider cost ($289, excluding state filing fees) and the highest overall score, partly because the $125 renewal appeared in the order summary before payment and nothing was preselected.
It isn’t the right fit for everyone. If you want tax filings, bookkeeping, or legal advice bundled in, or you’re a non-US founder who needs an EIN without a Social Security number and a lot of hand-holding, another provider will likely serve you better.

What this review is based on. First-hand: my own Florida LLC, formed with Northwest in 2020 and still active, plus invoices, portal screenshots, and support emails from that account. Rechecked in 2026: a direct Northwest checkout walked to the payment step on September 23, support questions sent September 24, and Northwest’s pricing and terms pages read October 2. Not tested: we didn’t place a new paid order or test Northwest’s paid mail forwarding or virtual office plans.
My experience with Northwest Registered Agent since 2020
I’m originally from Nigeria, West Africa. In 2020, accepting international payments through Stripe from where I was based was close to impossible, and I was losing money on international clients and affiliate payouts week after week. A friend in the Caribbean pointed me to Northwest. I formed a Florida LLC through them, got my EIN separately, set up Stripe, and that year my online business crossed six figures for the first time.
Stripe worked without a problem. However, banking was a bit harder.
I opened a Mercury bank account in 2020 using Northwest’s address. A few years later, Mercury stopped serving my country (and a few others), and I had to move several five-figure balances out. I later opened a Brex account, but eventually Brex required me to provide a physical US address in early 2026. That messed with my head for a while.
The point of this story is, if you’re a non-resident planning to bank with a registered agent address, go in expecting that a bank’s requirements can change.
I pay $125 annually for Northwest registered agent
The registered agent service from Northwest has been steady. The first year came free with formation, and I’ve paid $125 every year since 2021. My July 23, 2025 renewal email in my records reads, “Your total is $125.”
Use Northwest address for my business
I’ve used Northwest’s address as my main business address the whole time, for my Florida state filing, international invoices, and partnerships. Mail volume has been small.
I use their mail service for free, and they scan my documents
My client portal below shows one or two pieces of regular mail a year from February 2023 through February 2026, which keeps me well inside the five free scans Northwest includes. Each time, an email arrives saying a document has been uploaded, and I can preview or download it from the portal. One of those pieces was a payment check a company I worked with mailed to my business address. Northwest scanned it and uploaded it the same way.
Their customer support so far is solid
Support has generally answered within an hour to three hours, and the slowest reply I remember took about six. In February 2023, I emailed at 1:06 p.m. to ask whether Northwest offered legal review of a settlement agreement or could refer me to someone. The reply came at 5:27 p.m. the same day: Northwest doesn’t review legal documents or refer customers to attorneys, and it suggested searching an attorney database. A direct no, but a no.
Their annual report filing is expensive; I’d rather DIY
What annoyed me most was the annual report. Every year, Northwest emails a reminder before Florida’s deadline, which is useful. The reminder also offers to file the report for me. My April 2026 reminder put that at “$239.00, including state fees.” Initially, for two years, I let Northwest file it. Florida’s own fee is $138.75. Once I realized I could file on Sunbiz myself, which takes under five minutes, I stopped paying Northwest for it.
My advice after using them since 2020 is to use Northwest for formation and the registered agent, which is what it does best, and to think twice about the rest. I already had a website host and domain provider, so I never used Northwest’s website tools.
What Northwest Registered Agent costs now
For the core service, Northwest’s pricing is pretty simple. Formation is $39 plus the state fee, the first year of registered agent service is included, and the renewal is $125 a year. Owners who need an agent in five or more states pay $100 a year per state.

Three-year cost
The three-year comparison cost in our review of 13 LLC services adds formation, three years of registered agent service and an operating agreement where it’s sold separately. State fees are left out so you can compare what each company charges for its own work.
Northwest: $39 formation + $0 agent in year one + $125 in year two + $125 in year three = $289.
Northwest offers a free operating agreement template, so nothing is added for that. In that comparison, every company that started at $0 cost more by year three.
What the $39 package includes
According to Northwest’s LLC formation page, the $39 covers preparing and filing your Articles of Organization, one year of registered agent service, and a free “business identity” bundle: a domain, a website, a business email, a phone line, and a business address. Northwest also offers free attorney-drafted operating agreement templates.
Two things to be clear about. The operating agreement is a template you fill in yourself; nobody drafts it for you. And the state filing fee is separate. In Florida, that brings the day-one total to $164.
Not included: an EIN, annual report filing, mail beyond five regular pieces a year, mail forwarding, and legal advice.
The checkout
On September 23, 2026, we walked Northwest’s direct checkout for a Wyoming LLC to the payment step. It offered one add-on, an EIN filing, and preselected nothing. Before payment, the order summary read “Registered Agent Service Included / Renews at $125/yr.” Of the 13 services we checked, few put their renewal price that close to the buy button.
There’s some friction. You create an account before the payment page appears. The checkout also listed Wyoming’s state fee as $103.00, about 60 cents above the state’s own online total of $102.40, and nothing on the page explained the difference.
The Northwest link on this page goes to a partner landing page offering the same $39 package with registered agent service and other items listed as included. That page doesn’t mention the $125 renewal. We didn’t complete a checkout through it, so the renewal disclosure above comes from Northwest’s direct checkout.
The registered agent service
A registered agent’s job is to accept legal papers and official state mail for your LLC at a physical address in the state, during business hours. Northwest scans what it receives, uploads it to your client portal, and emails you when something arrives. In my account, that has worked the same way since 2020.
The limits sit in the fine print. Northwest’s Florida registered agent page says it scans up to five pieces of regular business mail a year for free and charges $15 for each piece after that. Its document storage terms also mention a limit of 15 legal documents a year, with a fee above that, though no amount is published. Packages are held for no more than 14 days. For a typical small LLC that gets a few state notices a year, none of this will come up. For a business that expects a steady flow of mail, it will.
Northwest also sends annual report reminders, which have kept me from missing Florida’s deadline.
Privacy and the address: what it covers, and what it doesn’t
Northwest’s address can be used in place of your home address on eligible address fields of your state filing. On my Florida filing, I used Northwest’s address instead of my own. Keeping a home address off the formation documents is the main privacy benefit most people are paying for. But for me, I do not live in the US, so that decision wasn’t far-fetched.
It has limits. A registered agent covers one address field on its own; keeping your home off the rest of the filing depends on using Northwest’s address for those fields too, and on what your state’s forms ask for. Some states and annual reports also ask for the names of members, managers, or authorized people, and an agent’s address doesn’t change that.
Banks are a separate question:
Northwest’s paid mail forwarding service provides a commercial business address, but whether a bank accepts it depends on that bank’s verification rules. My Brex experience is the other side of that: a bank can decide later that it wants a physical US address, and a registered agent address won’t satisfy it.
A registered agent is also not a complete setup for a non-US founder. It doesn’t get you an EIN, a bank account, tax filings, a payment processor or a physical US address. Each of those is its own step with its own requirements.
Support and cancellation
Our September 24 support test sent the same five questions to 11 formation services. Northwest answered our contact form in about three hours, gave the right price and renewal, and quoted Wyoming’s online filing fee as $104 (the state’s own total is $102.40). We asked twice how to cancel and whether it costs anything, and got no direct answer either time.
Northwest’s written terms are clearer than that reply was. Customers can “cancel your Services anytime by logging into your account”, and “there are no fees to cancel.” Purchases become non-refundable after 90 days, and to stop an automatic renewal you need to cancel at least one business day before the charge. We did not find a general money-back guarantee in the Northwest terms and pricing pages we reviewed.
But in my own account, the cancellation link is right there:
One thing to plan for before you cancel: mail. Northwest’s termination terms say that if documents arrive after you cancel, you can renew, pay past-due fees, or pay a per-document fee to access them. The terms don’t publish that per-document amount.
Before you leave Northwest, update your registered agent with the state so important legal mail no longer goes there, then cancel.

Three-year costs are provider fees only and exclude state filing fees. Prices come from our September 23 to 26, 2026 checkout walks; full results are in our Best LLC Services comparison. LegalZoom’s figure is an estimate: its checkout never offered a registered agent, so we used the $249-a-year price from its registered agent page, which says renewal pricing is subject to change. That makes it a less direct comparison than the others.
Northwest vs. Bizee: Bizee is cheaper on day one and $108 more by year three. Its checkout also preselected a paid virtual address that goes on your state filing.
Northwest vs. ZenBusiness: ZenBusiness costs more than twice as much over three years, mostly because of its $199 agent renewal.
Northwest vs. LegalZoom: LegalZoom offers attorney services. On price, it isn’t close.
Northwest vs. doola: doola is the pick for founders outside the US who need an EIN without a Social Security number, a US address and more support. Northwest is the cheaper choice for owners who don’t need doola’s non-US founder bundle.
Northwest vs. DIY: In Florida, if you qualify to serve as your own registered agent, have the required physical address and don’t mind using it publicly, you can skip a commercial registered agent entirely.

My verdict
I still use Northwest because the core service has done what I needed: formation, registered agent service, mail scans, renewal reminders, and predictable $125 renewals. I’d use it again for a simple LLC, but I’d usually skip the EIN and annual report add-ons unless convenience matters more than cost.
